Founded in 1753, the British Museum houses nearly 7˝ million pieces of art and holds perhaps the greatest collection of antiquities in the world. Among this inspiring collection are masterpieces from ancient Egypt Greece and Rome, as well as much of western Asia. A highlight among the Egyptian gallery is the Rosetta Stone, a slab of rock which enabled scientists to first decipher hieroglyphics. In the Greek and Roma gallery is an amazing collection of sculpture art, among many other things. All of the antiquity exhibits are displayed between two floors; simply grab a museum map at the entrance to navigate this huge building more easily.
