Located in London’s West End, Leicester Square (pronounced Lester Square) was first laid out in 1670 and since then the neighborhood has remained one of the top entertainment districts in the city. Glitzy cinemas and old theaters abound in Leicester Square, intertwined with a wide selection of nightclubs, eclectic shops, street performers and other stylish enterprises. Perhaps the neighborhood is best depicted in the elegant statue of Charlie Chaplin dominating the heart of the square. Not only did Chaplin perform here, but his quirky humor and eccentric lifestyle reflect the general attitude of the neighborhood.
