The Tower Bridge of London is perhaps the city’s defining landmark. Completed in 1894 after eight years of construction, this immaculate structure stretches over the Thames River and offers inspiring views of the city and the Thames. The design of the Tower Bridge is different than any other bridge in the city, with two massive piers piercing the sky and more than 11,000 tons of steel used for the framework. The frame is clad in Cornish granite and Portland stone, both to protect the underlying steelwork and to give the bridge a more pleasing appearance.
